Dr Gabriel Wynn, Director
Education and qualifications
I qualified with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology (M.Ed) in New Jersey, USA in 1994. In 2000 I became a U.S. Nationally Certified Counsellor (NCC) and was amongst the first 300 counsellors in New Jersey to earn State Licensure as a Professional Counsellor (LPC). Following my move to UK in 2002 I became a BACP accredited counsellor in 2003 (MBACP Accred). More recently I qualified in 2019 as a counselling psychologist. I am a BPS Chartered, HCPC Registered Consultant Counselling Psychologist.
Work history
From 1994 –2000 I held staff psychotherapist positions on psychiatric units at St Clare’s Hospital, Boonton, NJ, and the University Medical Center, Princeton, N.J. During this time I also worked as an associate counsellor in a number of private practices.
In 2002 I moved to Manchester, UK, a city I love to call home.
In 2003 I commenced work with the Stockport community eating disorder service (CEDS). The service was first commissioned by the NHS in 1997. I took on its clinical directorship in 2006, a post I presently still hold. In 2014 I reformed the organisation as a social enterprise. Oakwood Psychology Services continues to work in partnership with Stockport PCT/CCG/ICS to provide the Stockport adult community eating disorder service. I am phenomenally proud of the Oakwood team, which comprises caring and dedicated clinical leadership, senior practitioners, administrators, support staff and trainee psychological therapists.
Beyond my responsibilities in counselling service leadership, I have since 2018 been an employed Lecturer for the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology programme at the University of Manchester.
