Help Yourself! Recovery Course for Overcoming Binge Eating and Bulimia
Help Yourself! is an innovative and effective alternative to traditional counselling for people who want to overcome binge eating, compulsive eating, and bulimia. It involves a combination of structured course work using proven self-help guides and weekly group therapy. This 16 week course delivers cognitive behavioural skills training that makes recovery a reality for most participants.
Help Yourself! may be suitable for you if you:
- have had an eating disorder for 6 months or more and are ready to actively address it
- have time to do at least an hour of homework each week plus attend a weekly group for four months
Help Yourself! is not suitable if:
- you also have symptoms of depression that have not been helped by medication
- your BMI is below 18 or you have ongoing rapid weight loss
- you have other emotional or behavioural difficulties such as self harming or substance abuse
Help Yourself! is accessed by GP referral. We accept NHS-funded and self-funded clients for whom the course will be suitable. The cost for self-funded clients is £240.00 for 17 sessions (this includes initial assessment). Before being assigned to a Help Yourself! course you will have an initial assessment with one of our senior therapists who will gather a detailed history of your eating difficulties and any other related health, social or psychological issues you may be experiencing. This initial session aims to ascertain your needs and determine if the Help Yourself! course is right for you.
Help Yourself! Overcome Binge Eating and Bulimia is offered three times a year at Oakwood House, with new groups staring every January, May and September. Please see our Programme Diary for the dates of the next course.
