Fitter Families
The Fitter Families programme spans 4 weeks and aims to improve family fitness by supporting the development of new behaviours relating to eating and activity for parents and children to do together.
Referral Process: Access to the Bramhall Fitter Families Programme is via GPs within Bramhall Park Medical Centre where a need to improve fitness has been identified. NWCED is happy to work with other weight management teams/GP surgeries/Primary Care Trusts on developing and carrying out similar programmes.
The NWCED therapist works together with the family to explore and improve family members' relationships with food as well as their approach to communicating and problem-solving. Based on the Fairburn CBT approach for overcoming binge eating (Fairburn, Marcus and Wilson, 1993; Fairburn, 1995), this strand of the programme involves education, between-session monitoring and collaborative exploration of related issues.
Fitter Families programme is suitable for family members of all ages.
